Forest School

Forest School is a child-initiated, educational process that promotes, observes and supports the social, emotional and physical development of children, young people and adults in an outdoor woodland environment.

Forest School offers children opportunities to achieve success, develop confidence and self esteem through hands on learning experiences in our ‘woodland’ area. This area at St James’s is being developed on the school field. At the request of our pupils, all children at St James's have a chance to take part in Forest School during the school year.

Pupils go to ‘Forest School’ in all weathers! If your child is due to take part in Forest School as part of the curriculum or as an after school club they will need to bring clothes to change into that are appropriate for the weather conditions on that day.  They will need long sleeved tops, long trousers, waterproof coats, sun hats and wellies for each session. Please note we have your child’s best interests at heart and will be monitoring weather conditions constantly so if needs be we will run sessions or part sessions indoors.
